Paradise Locked: Wishlist Destinations You Have The Key To

More than anything, Hacker Paradise is a community; consciously diverse, and globally minded. The collaborative magic that happens when we get together is what drives us. But why should that collaboration only happen once you’ve joined a trip with us? Correct answer: it shouldn’t. That’s why we’ve introduced our Paradise Locked trips, giving you an opportunity to have a say in which of the world’s breathtaking destinations we go to next! 

Our Paradise Locked destinations are those unique, offbeat places that require a minimum number of signups (deposits) to be officially added to our schedule. See a Locked Paradise that you want to make happen? All you need to do is put down a small, refundable deposit of $300, and you will have done your part in “unlocking” that destination. If we don’t reach the minimum number of signups for that particular destination, that deposit comes straight back to you (or can be applied to another trip). If we do, that destination is officially “unlocked”, added to our schedule and your spot is reserved!

How are the Paradise Locked destinations chosen?

We’ve been doing this for a while now — long enough to know that our community’s input is very important to us being successful. For years, we’ve been listening to your suggestions, which have now manifested in our Paradise Locked destinations. Generally speaking, they are unique, offbeat places submitted by our members and applicants. With the endorsement of the broader community, we’re super excited to add them to our official schedule.

How do I identify which are Paradise Locked destinations?

Each destination on our Trips page has a status bar; if the status bar reads: #UnlockThisParadise, you know that this destination requires a minimum number of deposits to officially be added to our schedule (i.e. it’s a Paradise Locked destination). Once this destination is “unlocked” by reaching the required number of deposits placed, the status bar will be updated to read: #Open or “LimitedAvailability. Thereafter, we will continue to take reservations until the trip is completely filled.

What happens to my deposit if the required number of signups isn’t met?

Your deposit will be returned to you, or re-allocated to secure your reservation on another trip of your choosing.

I’ve put down a deposit for a Paradise Locked destination — when will I be notified if it’s going ahead or not?

In the case that your destination is “unlocked” and going ahead, we will let you know as soon as it is confirmed, but no later than 6 – 8 weeks in advance of the trip start date. In the case that we do not reach the minimum number of signups required to officially add the trip to our schedule, we will also let you know no less than 6 – 8 weeks in advance of the trip start date.

How can I increase the chances of my preferred destination being “unlocked”?

So, you’re obsessed with joining us in a particular Locked Paradise destination, you’ve put down your deposit, and now you want to know what more you can do to make it official? 1. Shout about it from the rooftops. 2. Call into your favorite radio station and request community support (do people still call radio stations?). 3) Send a chain letter to your entire email address list, circa 1997 (JK. Please don’t do that). Whatever you do: get your people as excited about the destination as you are, because the more people to put down a small deposit, the higher the chance of it being “unlocked”!

REQUESTING A REFUND

The decision to request money back must be taken between the end of the first and second week after being an active member in our community. This is to give enough time to see if the program and community meet the expectations. The participant needs to actively attend events (at least 3 events per week). Qualifying official HP Events are

  • Monday Lunch
  • Goals Setting Sessions
  • Skills Sharing Sessions
  • Potluck

To set in motion, you need to both verbalize to the facilitators in charge and via email to [email protected] how and why we didn’t meet your expectations.

NEXT STEPS

After following the steps above, we will calculate and refund your money. We will process back 1200 USD for a 4 week period, 2400 USD if you signed up for an 8 week period. You will be expected to leave the housing after the end of the initial two week period. You will receive a full refund for the trips that are more than 8 weeks into your initial start date.

ADDITIONAL INFO

This guarantee applies to dissatisfaction with the HP community on trip and other factors such as housing or weather will not be taken into consideration.
